PostHeaderIcon my landlord is aking for more? is that legal?

I live in Chicago and I been living in this building for 7 years. When I rented the apartment the landlord told me that the parking was included, however, the new owners keep the apartments with the old regulations except one: we have to pay for parking! I was fine with the amount they ask a month. I filled up the application and once I was approved I send my rent with the extra fee for the parking. However, I received another letter saying that in order to get the permit tag for the parking I have to sign an agreement for I feel cheated because I have proof that they CLEARLY stated in writing and even I asked the landlord over the phone and he also said . As far as I know if they advertised as they should keep it or make corrections before they receive the rent or the extra fee, or at least notice us in some way. So, it is legal form my landlord to change the fee without notice or otherwise get abused and pay the . (it’s not about the money, it is about tenants rights)

If you do not have a lease, but are on a month to month basis then all they have to do is give you 30 days notice of the new price. They can charge however much they want to. It is legal. Now if you have a lease and everything you stated in your question is written in that lease as far as prices go, then what they are trying to do is illegal unless both parties are agreeable to it. The new price would be put into the new lease when it is time to sign again. If this is just an additional one time $35.00 charge it very well maybe going to the city or county and not to the owner of the lot. This is also legal.
    Good luck.

Does the lease you signed seven years ago say parking is included? If so, your landlord is stuck. If not, it sounds like you have a separate written agreement that says parking is $25.00 a month. Your landlord cannot legally sign an agreement saying parking is $25.00 a month and then say you have to pay an additional $10.00 a month to get the permit tag so you don’t get towed.

Be careful here. If you come on too strong, your landlord may refuse to renew your lease when it expires. I don’t know what the Chicago market is like, but just the cost of relocating (moving expenses, etc.) could make that extra $10.00 a month look like a good deal.
