		<description>If you do not have a lease, but are on a month to month basis then all they have to do is give you 30 days notice of the new price. They can charge however much they want to. It is legal. Now if you have a lease and everything you stated in your question is written in that lease as far as prices go, then what they are trying to do is illegal unless both parties are agreeable to it. The new price would be put into the new lease when it is time to sign again. If this is just an additional one time $35.00 charge it very well maybe going to the city or county and not to the owner of the lot. This is also legal.

		<description>Does the lease you signed seven years ago say parking is included?  If so, your landlord is stuck.  If not, it sounds like you have a separate written agreement that says parking is $25.00 a month.  Your landlord cannot legally sign an agreement saying parking is $25.00 a month and then say you have to pay an additional $10.00 a month to get the permit tag so you don’t get towed.

Be careful here.  If you come on too strong, your landlord may refuse to renew your lease when it expires.  I don’t know what the Chicago market is like, but just the cost of relocating (moving expenses, etc.) could make that extra $10.00 a month look like a good deal.</description>
