PostHeaderIcon Is it legal for a live-in boyfriend to claim children on IRS taxes?

Situation: A boyfriend and girlfriend have been living together for less than one year. The two children do not belong to the boyfriend. They are the girlfriend’s children. When it was time to file for ’06, the boyfriend claimed both of the children (with gf’s permission) on his tax form. Is this legal? Do you know anyone who has done this & then the IRS wanted the BIG refund back?? Is there a website that would say if this is legal? I searched on the IRS website but did not see anything. Thanks for your help!
The girlfriend did not claim the children. The boyfriend claimed and then they split the money. (It’s not me tho..seriously!) :-)
To Johnny S: How about providing an answer worth something instead of judging someone. I do agree that living together outside of marriage is sin, but the Bible also says to do all things in love bc without love you have nothing!
The gf did not claim the children. I’m not sure if the boyfriend claimed the gf as a dependent or not. She only half worked through-out the year. I don’t think the biological father claimed the children.

PostHeaderIcon Is it possible to make a living as a yoga teacher?

I’m planning on becoming a yoga teacher. I’ll have 6 months living expenses saved up. Does anyone you know make a living solely from teaching yoga? Or do they do other things – if so what? And what kind of money can you make? I’d be teaching here in New York City. Thanks!

PostHeaderIcon my landlord is aking for more? is that legal?

I live in Chicago and I been living in this building for 7 years. When I rented the apartment the landlord told me that the parking was included, however, the new owners keep the apartments with the old regulations except one: we have to pay for parking! I was fine with the amount they ask a month. I filled up the application and once I was approved I send my rent with the extra fee for the parking. However, I received another letter saying that in order to get the permit tag for the parking I have to sign an agreement for I feel cheated because I have proof that they CLEARLY stated in writing and even I asked the landlord over the phone and he also said . As far as I know if they advertised as they should keep it or make corrections before they receive the rent or the extra fee, or at least notice us in some way. So, it is legal form my landlord to change the fee without notice or otherwise get abused and pay the . (it’s not about the money, it is about tenants rights)

PostHeaderIcon living situation- what should I do? Need a place to stay while the house is being finished.?

OK- reality is starting to sink in. We have our house up for sale- and now someone is coming back to chose between our house and another- so this might be it!!! Then I start thinking- we have about 6 months before we can live in our house because it’s being brought up to code and has a lot of work that needs to be done. So here is my living choices

1. Get an apartment – waste a ton of money but more privacy.

2. Live with my mother whom has 6 nasty pit bulls and pray to god nothing happens to my toy dogs. Now granted- we will be the other side of the house- and we might but up and extra door so we would have our own living space there. But I have to worry about people being careful. My male dog lived with my mom for 2 weeks when I was on my honeymoon but it just makes me nervous. No rent- save a ton of money but live with 4 more adults for 6 months.

3. See if my friend Jon will rent to us- but he is strange about animals and we have 2 dogs and 2 cats. He has a large down house but he’s a neat freak. Plus that will be 0-700 a month.

PLUS- I am most likely going to have to get a storage unit until our house is finished.

What would you do? Keep in mind I have a mortgage on the new house so ,400 already being paid out a month.
I will not board my dogs- I don’t like how they treat them. My dogs are very spoiled and would be very upset- I spend most of my free time with them.
I don’t have friend who can watch them for 6 months.
